A bomb crater is a reminder of the occasional massive bombing raids by Allied planes that usually wanted to minimise the risks on their retreat to England.
It was common for Allied bombers, chased by German fighters, to have to get rid of their bombs. They were preferably let loose in the vast fields around villages. Even though they were not aimed at a target, they nevertheless instilled fear among the rural population. They also left behind scars in the form of bomb craters. Hundreds have been masked by nature as a skilled plastic surgeon. At this site, such a crater has been cleared of vegetation to make it visible again, because this part of the war should also not be forgotten.
