This memorial commemorates the Worthington Force, a unit of the Canadian 4th Armoured Division led by Lieutenant Colonel Donald Worthington. It is situated near Langannerie, where the Polish War Cemetery is located. The Memorial is near the D131 road between Estrées-la-campagne and Maizières.

On 9 August 1944, the Worthington Force unit took part of Operation Totalize, an operation of the last phase of the Battle of Normandy which aimed to reach the Falaise pocket, a group of resisting German troops that were located south of Caen. Worthington and his men were ordered to capture a hill named Point 195. During the night of 8 to 9 August 1944, the unit lost its way in the dark and found itself at Point 140.

The soldiers were left isolated in the middle of enemy lines, leaving them with no resources for help. In the morning, 47 armoured vehicles were destroyed and 112 soldiers perished, along with Lieutenant Colonel Worthington.

The memorial represents the two regiments involved in the event: the British Columbia and the Algonquin.

The British Columbia regiment is represented on the large white cross featuring its badge.

The Algonquin Regiment’s badge is represented on a marble stele.
