This metal plaque bordered with stars commemorates a visit to Saint-Hubert by the American writer, journalist and war correspondent, Ernest Hemingway.

Ernest Hemingway was born on 21 July 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois, in the United States. During the Second World War, he followed the 4th US Infantry Division and took part in the liberation of Belgium. Hemingway stayed with the American troops in several places, including Saint-Hubert in September 1944.

A few months later in December, in order to be as close as possible to the battle, he went to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and in March 1945 he returned home to the United States. He died on 2 July 1961.

The information on the plaque is therefore incorrect: Ernest Hemingway did stay in Saint-Hubert in 1944, but in September, not December.
